Here's how it works. With pulses that last a fraction of a second, the IPL penetrates a short distance into the skin. The energy from the light heats certain molecules in the oil producing glands which breakdown and release oxygen. The oxygen kills the bacteria. The glands are disabled and will reduce their production of oil. The light also carefully damages the fine blood vessels, which cause redness and are gradually reabsorbed by the body.
